How to practice Bharamari pranayam (The humming bee breath)

Step by steps

1.Find a silent place.take a mat and spread on place for comfortable setting.Take easy siting position on mat.mostly crossed leg siting is best for any pranayam but always sit on comfortable posture and the back should be straight.your head straight and let your palms rest on your knees. Do not do this in a lying down position. 

2.Breathe normally and relax the whole body.Keep the mouth closed and the teeth apart.Close your eyes and breath deeply.

3.Raise your arms up with the elbows out and close your ear lids or flaps with our thumb.do not apply any pressure.

4.Now place your index fingers above your eyebrows on your forehead.The two middle fingers should be placed over your closed eyes.The little fingers should be against the sides of your nostrils.applying very gentle pressure on side of your nose.


5.Now concentrate your mind on the area between your eyebrows.Inhale deeply and fill the lungs with full of air.keep your mouth close and a start creating The humming sound of "om" while you exhale.

6.You can also make a low-pitched sound but it is a good idea to make a high-pitched one for better results.However, do not strain yourself or force the breath at any point. Gradually build up your strength and take a break whenever needed.Breath in again and continue same practice 3-5 times in starting than you can  increase round as per your convenience.


Note :- 


1.Ensure that you are not putting your finger inside the ear but on the cartilage.

2.If you have an ear infection, avoid this breathing exercise until the infection disappears.

3.People with heart problems should not hold their breath when practicing this pranayam.

4.Do not eat a heavy meal before practicing the Bhramari pranayam and keep a gap of at least a few hours between the last meal and this exercise, as the breathing puts pressure on the lungs and diaphragm and can affect the digestive process.

5.Never force the breathing.

6.If you feel dizzy at any point, stop the exercise and continue with your normal breathing.

Anulom Vilom pranayam - Alternate Nostril Breathing

Anulom vilom pranayam is alternate nostril breathing means breathing is done only through one nostril which is alternate.Anuloma is opposite of viloma. During this process right hand the thumb is used to close the right nostril and right hand ring finger is used to close left nostril.

Anulom vilom pranayam should be done on an empty stomach,preferably in the morning after evacuation.it can also be done in the evening with the gap of 4 hours after the last meal.

the main purpose of pranayam is to control breathing mechanism which is involuntary process.With regular practice of pranayama, this process can be brought into our conscious control to some extent.The duration of inhalation and expiration depends entirely on the capacity of the practitioner. 

It is very helpful in respiratory related deceases like asthma.It is very effective to purify mind and body. Anulom Vilom pranayama is one of the excellent breathing exercises which is also know as Nadi Shodhana. Regular practice offers energy in the body and releases stress and anxiety. 

How to do Anulom Vilom pranayam

Step by step

1.Sit on the floor or on mat.take comfortable sitting.padmasan pose (lotus pose) or crossed leg posture is most suited for the practice.close your eyes keep your spinal cord and head straight.keep hand on knee.Those who can't sit,they can sit on chair because this is related to the breath.

2.Close the right nostril with right thumb and breath in from your left nostril.Do this as slowly as you can, till your lungs are full.hold your breath now release the thumb and close the left nostril with our ring finger then breath out slowly through the right nostril.

3.Now breath in from your right nostril and close left nostril with ring finger hold for couple of second than release ring finger close your right nostril through right thumb do breath out from left nostril.Keep in mind that your breathing should be up to the lungs and not in the stomach.

4.As new Pranayama practitioners start with the ratio of 1:1:1 for breath in,hold breath and breath out respectively.With further progress, the ratio can be increased to 1:1:2, 1:2:2, 1:4:2, etc. The ratio of 1:4:2 is mentioned in most classic yoga texts. Those who practice advanced ratios of this pranayama, should eat only pure,nourishing and light foods.

5.Repeat this steps 5 to 25 minutes as much as you can.

Note :- 

1.Do not increase the duration of inhalation and exhalation beyond your limit. 

2.Those suffering from heart ailments or blood pressure problems they should do anulom vilom pranayam without holding breath before this also consult a doctor.

3.Avoid doing Anulom Vilom pranayama when the temperature is hot. Retention of breath can cause an increase in body temperature and should be done in a cool climate.

4.Pregnant women should practice Anulom Vilom but over straining should be avoided.

Bahya pranayam - External Breath


Bahya pranayam (External Breath) is named from Sanskrit word Baahya mean external and pranayam mean breathing technique.


In this you have to breath in and breath out than kept breath out side during the process.therefore this pranayam called as Bahya pranayam(external breath or external retention).


It should be done after kapalbhati pranayama.


Step by step process of Bahya pranayam (external breath or external retention).


1.Sit on the floor or on mat.take comfortable sitting in padmasan pose (lotus pose) or crossed leg posture.close your eyes keep your spinal cord and head straight.keep hand on knee.

2.Take a deep breath than exhale completely.after exhale hold your breath and try to pull your stomach upward as much as you can touch your chin to the chest.hold this position and breath as long as is comfortable.

3.The process of taking,leaving and holding breath should be in 1:2:3 ratio.if your taking 2 seconds for inhale so 4 second should be breath out and give 6 second for hold breath process.

4.When you feel like breathing in, take the breath throw it out again as before,without holding it up.

5.Same process repeat 5-10 times.


Note :- 


1.All pranayam should start in early morning after wake up on empty stomach.


2.People who have heart disease,blood pressure and cervical colitis should not attempt this practices. 


3.Woman in their period and pregnant or planning to become pregnant woman should  not try this.

1) Find a silent place.take a mat and spread on place for comfortable setting.


2) Take easy siting position on mat.mostly crossed leg siting is best for any pranayam but always sit on comfortable posture and the back should be straight.put your hands on knees.


3) Close your eyes and Start concentration on breath.Took a deep breath from both nostrils. wait for some seconds and breathe out.focus on your breathing and be relax.when you inhale air don't blow up your stomach that time your chest area should blow up.


4) Same thing repeat at 5-10 times.take deep breath than wait and breath out.


Morning time after when you take wake up is so suitable for bhastrika pranayam yoga.yoga can also do at evening before sleeping.It must be practiced for three months at least on a regular basis to get the benefits.It must be done for three to four rounds to get the desired results.

1) You should avoid practicing bellows breath on a full stomach.wait at least two hours after eating.
